Mary Rani Church, Keralapuram



Mary Rani Church, Keralapuram Parish is dedicated to Our Lady. It is entrusted to the Southern Indian province of the Congregation of the Mission.

Situated on Kollam – Shencottai National Highway, 12 KM away from Kollam. Village: Keralapuram, Panchayat: Elampalloor.

Population : Mainly consists of Muslims and Hindus Comparatively Christian Population is meager.

Fr. Cherian Kariankal laid the foundation for the present Parish Church on 25 th May 1980. Rt. Rev. Joseph G. Fernandez blessed the Church on 15 th August 1981.Rt. Rev. Stanley Roman laid the foundation for the renovation of the Church on 15 th August 2003. As part of extension work, the present portico and the front elevation are added to the Church. The renovated Church was blessed on 23 rd January 2004 by the Bishop of Quilon.

There were less than 40 families at the beginning of this Parish - most of the being masons and daily workers. Later on, due to better living condition and communication facilities, many families have settled here from near by Parishes like Kumbalam, Padappakara etc.
