Kerala State Road and Transport Corporation (KSRTC) - tradition of public service and transport expertise to give Kerala a bus and coach system of which we can be justly proud of.

The history of Kerala State Road Transport Corporation began whilst the development of the it wasn't booming enough like today.

Consequent on the enactment of Road Transport Corporation Act in 1950, Govt. of Kerala formulated KSRTC rules in 1965 by sec.44 and the department was converted into an autonomous corporation on 1.4.1965. The Kerala State road Transport Corporation was established by the government of Kerala by the notification dated, 15-3-1965. The arrangements required for the smooth taking over of the services run by the Kerala State Transport Department were made expeditiously by the corporation.

The corporation has a fleet strength of 4704 - 2940 Leyland, 1562 Tata, 200 Eicher and 2 Volvos . Out of these 2124 buses ( 45.15% ) are aged more than 7 years of life. There are nearly 366 buses (7.78%) above 10 years of age being scrapped. The daily scheduled distance for bus services also increased from 12,00,000 km to 14,22,546 km.
