The Polytechnic, which is a government sector establishment of the government of Kerala, was established in 1980, with Shri. Ramachandra Pisharady as its first principal.

Under his able leadership and guidance the polytechnic started with 3 main branches of study, namely Technical with specialization of foundry technology, Power electronics and Instrument technology.

The polytechnic college is located in an area of 68 acres, about 60 kms from Palakkad on the Palakkad – Pollachi road. The college has proximity to a large number of large and medium scale industries.
