Kunnamkulam Fish Curry

Kunnamkulam Fish Curry Kunnamkulam Style Meen Curry is a fish curry from Kunnamkulam in Thrissur district of Kerala. Recipe taken from Vanitha Magazine old edition. Recipe is by Mrs. Kochu Sara George, Kunnamkulam. Ingredients Any Big Fish - 1 kg Turmeric powder - 2 pinches Red Chilly powder - 2 tbsp Valanpuli (Tamarind) - 1 lemon sized Salt - as to taste Kumkum Star (Kudum Puli) - 2 small pieces Ginger - 1" piece Small Onions - 5 Coconut Oil - 1 and 1/2 tbsp Curry leaves - 3 stems Method Make a paste of the turmeric and red chilly powder. Crush the small onions and ginger along with salt, curry leaves and coconut oil. Mix well. Clean the fish properly and mix with the above crushed mixture. Add the chilly-turmeric paste also to this mixture. Add the tamarind water into this. Water should cover the fish pieces. Add the kudam puli into this mixture and start cooking. When the gravy thickens, fry the shallots and curry leaves and add it into the curry.
