First one of its kind in Kerala State, Siddha Medical College was started in the year 2000 at the capital, Thiruvananthapuram. College has 50 students per batch.

Siddha medicines have been used in treatment also in Santhigiri group of hospitals. As these colleges are having Tamil Language as the medium of instruction, only students who have studied Tamil as an elective subject can join this course. Therefore this system could not receive proper exposure outside Tamil Nadu. In this scenario, Santhigiri came forward to universalize Siddha education by adopting the medium of instruction as the universal language English. Tamil has been made as a subject of study just like Sanskrit in Ayurveda medical course.
