M G Sreekumar

M.G. Sreekumar is a prominent Indian playback singer, music director, and composer who works mainly in the Malayalam film industry. He was born on May 25, 1957, in Harippad, Kerala, India.

Sreekumar began his career in the 1980s and has since become one of the most popular and respected singers in the industry. He has recorded over 3,500 songs in various Indian languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.

Apart from his work in films, Sreekumar has also released several non-film albums, including devotional and patriotic albums. He has also composed music for several films and television shows.

Sreekumar has won numerous awards for his work, including 5 National Film Awards for Best Male Playback Singer, 12 Kerala State Film Awards, and 2 Tamil Nadu State Film Awards. He has also been honored with the prestigious Padma Shri award by the Government of India in 2019 for his contributions to Indian music.

Sreekumar is known for his versatile voice and ability to sing a wide range of genres, from classical to contemporary. He has collaborated with several prominent composers in the industry, including A.R. Rahman, Ilaiyaraaja, and Vidyasagar, among others. M.G Sreekumar made his debut in the Malayalam movie Poochakkoru Mookkuthi.

He has sung more than 3000 songs across a number of films in Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi and Telugu and also had the rare honour of conducting the music direction on many cassettes that include devotional songs.

M G Sreekumar was born to late Malabar Gopalan Nair, who was a harmonist and a classical vocalist during the post-independence era of the 50s. MG Sreekumar has received the musical bacdrop from his father and mother himself.

His brother, M. G. Radha Krishnan, is a Senior Music Director who has done more than 100 films in Malayalam. His mother was also a music teacher who is now retired.
