Bharath Gopi



V. Gopinathan Nair, more popularly known as Bharath Gopi, was an Indian actor, filmmaker and producer.

He was one of the first actors to be associated with the New Wave Cinema movement in Kerala.

He is considered one of the greatest film actors in India and has won many awards, including the National Film Award for Best Actor for his role as Sankarankutty in Kodiyettam, and hence he got the name Bharath. As a filmmaker he is known for Ulsavapittennu and Yamanam.

And he produced Bharathan's Padheyam. In 1991 the Government of India honored him with the Padmashri for his contributions towards Indian cinema.

Born on November 8, 1937 at Chirayankil in Thiruvananthapuram District of the State of Kerala,Gopi began his acting career as a theatre actor. He became interested in cinema through the Chitralekha Film Society, founded by Adoor Gopalakrishnan.
