Idukki Tourist Places

Idukki district is one of the most beautiful districts of Kerala with its natural high range beauty and the dense green forests. The district headquarters is located at Kuyilimala in Painavu. The largest Arch Dam in India is the Idukki Dam. It is built across the Periyar River and caters to the water needs of half the state of Kerala.

Idukki has some picturesque locations in Munnar, Peerumed, Thekkady, Kumali, Nedumkandam. Munnar, the hill station is one of the popular destinations of tourists in Kerala. Thekkady which houses the Periyar Tiger Reserve is also another popular destination. Chinnar Wildlife Sanctury, Eravikulam-Rajamala Wild Life Sanctury, Anamudi Shola National Park, Pampadum Shola National Park, and Thattekad Bird Sanctuary has some of the protected and rare species of animals, birds and plants. Plantaions of Tea, Coffee, Cardamom and rubber can be seen all around the district.
