Traditional Kerala Vegetarian Dishes -> Vendakka Manga Pulungari

 
 

Vendakka Manga Pulungari is a curry made of Lady's finger and raw mango.

 

Ingredients:


1. Vendakka (Lady's finger) - 10

    Raw Mango - 1

    Tomato - 1

    Green Chilly - 1

    Ginger - 5g

    Small onions - 50g

2. Grated Coconut - 1 cup

3. Coconut Oil - 50 ml

4. Mustard seeds - 1 tsp

    Fenugreek seeds - 1 pinch

    Dry Red Chillies - 2

    Curry leaves -  1 stem

5. Kumkum Star (Kudam Puli) - 2 flakes

6. Turmeric Powder - 1/2 small tsp

    Kashmiri Red chilly powder - 1 tsp

    Salt - as required

7. Water -  250 ml   

Vendakka Manga Pulungari

Method:

Cut the vegetables, green chilly's, ginger and small onions.

 

Grind the coconut to a fine paste.

 

Heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds and fenugreek seeds. Fry curry leaves, and dry red chillies. 


Add the vegetables, turmeric powder, chilly powder, salt and kudum puli and saute for some time.

 

Add water to this and cook until the vegetables are done.

 

Add the coconut paste to the curry.

 

Garnish with fried small onion, curry leaves, mustard seeds, and tomato pieces.
