 Non Vegetarian -> Fish & Sea Food Recipes -> Vazhapindi Chemmeen Theeyal

 

 

Vazhapindi Chemmeen Theeyal - Vazhapindi and dry prwans theeyal. Very tasy and healthy dish. Pindi is used in Kerala homes very frequently.

 

Ingredients:
1. Vazhapindi - 1 cup

2. Big Onion chopped fine - 2
    Curry leaves - 2 stems

3. Coconut grated - 1/2 of a coconut
    Turmeric Powder - 1 pinch
    Garlic - 4
    Button Onions (Shallots) - 1/2 cup
    Pepper - 5 to 6
    Curry leaves - 1 stem

4. Coriander Powder - 1 tbsp
    Chilly Powder - 2 tbsp

5. Dry Prawns - 1/4 cup

6. Coconut Oil - 2 tsp

    Mustard seeds - 1/2 tsp
 

7. Tamarind - 1 lemon sized

Vazhapindi Chemmeen Theeyal

Method:

Clean the vazhapindi and cut them into round pieces to remove the thread like formation.
 

Cut them into long finger pieces for theeyal.
 

Add the big onions and curry leaves to the vazhapindi.
 

Roast the third set of ingredients in a hot pan.
 

When the coconut turns golden brown in color, add the coriander and chilly powder and fry for some more time.
 

Grind it to a fine paste.
 

Clean the prawns and heat oil in a pan and splutter mustard seeds.
 

Saute the vazhapindi and the dry prawns.
 

Add the grounded paste and the tamarind pulp along with salt and water.
 

Boil for sometime and serve.
