Air India

Air India is the flag carrier airline of India, which is owned by the Indian government. The airline was founded in 1932 and is headquartered in New Delhi, India. Air India operates a fleet of both domestic and international flights, serving more than 80 destinations worldwide.

Air India was originally established as Tata Airlines by J.R.D. Tata, who is considered the founder of Indian aviation. In 1947, following India's independence, the airline was nationalized and renamed Air India. In 1953, Air India became the first airline in the world to introduce an all-jet fleet.

Air India has had a turbulent financial history, with the airline being consistently in debt due to factors such as high operating costs and political interference. In 2018, the Indian government announced plans to privatize the airline, but these plans were put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite its financial challenges, Air India remains a significant player in the Indian aviation industry and is known for its extensive international network, particularly in the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. The airline also operates a low-cost subsidiary called Air India Express, which focuses on regional and international routes.

Air India's worldwide network today covers 44 destinations by operating services with its own aircraft and through code-shared flights.

It is one of the two state-owned airlines in the country, the other being Indian Airlines. Its main bases are Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, Mumbai and Indira Gandhi International Airport, New Delhi with hubs at Chennai International Airport.

The airline connects 95 destinations around the world, including 12 gateways in India with Air India Express, which is a fully-owned subsidiary of Air India.

Air India was founded as Tata Airlines in 1932, a division of Tata Sons Ltd
