Sufi Paranja Katha : An expected Vishu Release

Sufi Paranja Katha is the third venture of National Film Award winning director Priyanandanan, Priyanandanan was honored with the best feature film award for his second venture Pulijanmam starring Murali, Sindu Menon etc.

Sufi Paranja Katha is the adaptation of famous Malayalam writer K.P. Ramanunni's novel with the same title. The novel Sufi Paranja Katha won the Kerala Sahitya Academy award and Edasseri award. He also won the Rashtriya Sahityik Puraskar instituted by the Bharatiya Bhasha Parishad.

Ramanunni's other works include Jeevithathinte Pusthakam, Charama Varshikam, Vidhathavinte Chiri, Vendappettavante Kurishu, Purusha Vilapam and Jathi Chothikkuka. Ramanunni, was born in 1955 in Ponnani,
‘Sufi Paranja Katha’ means the story as told by Sufi.

The Sufis are Muslim mystics. Film tells the story of relationships existing between Hindu and Muslim families during early nineteenth century in Northern Kerala.

Sharbani Mukherjee the cousin of Rani Mukherjee, Kajol and Tanisha is staging a comeback with this Malayalam film. She is not a new face for Malayalees as she had acted in Priyadarshan's Rakkilipattu.

Sharbani Mukherjee made her debut in the Bollywood film Border, 12 years back.

Karthy a beautiful Nair girl (Sharbani Mukherjee), is the daughter of a local Adhikari Shanku Menon played by Thambi Antony. She falls in love with the coconut seller Mammootty played by Prakash Barre.

Eventually they marry and Karthy gets converted to Islam. But she was unable to resist the customs and longings she had for her own religion.

Her husband who is the Muslim character makes a Bhagavathy temple for her, which creates communal tension.
In the film Sharbani wears the traditional dress of Nair girls Mundu and Mulakkacha used in the 19th and early 20th century.

This has created a big buzz around the heroine and the film. Producers can expect to cash in on this oomph factor which suddenly surfaced.

Sufi Paranja Katha began shooting on December 7th in Ottappalam, Palakkad.

Other cast members include Babu Antony, Innocent, Jagathy, Mullanezhi, Thambi Antony, Indrans, Mala Aravindan, Vineeth Kumar, Manikandan, Samvritha and Sona Nair.

Script and dialogues are by the novelist himself.

The film has music by Mohan Sitara and camera by KG Jayan.

The film is produced under the banner of Silicon Media by Prakash Bare who is also the hero in association with Thambi Antony who has burned his fingers with Blessy’s Calcutta News.

The movie is expected to be released in Vishnu.
