Neela Thamara : Lal Jose creates history

After the pathetic Mulla, which is said to be a lift from Tsotsi, Laljose is preparing for a comeback through the remake of an old Malayalam film Neelathamara. The heroine introduced in Mulla, Meera Nandan is currently busy with her other projects.

This is the first time a yesteryear Malayalam film is being remade.

Neela Thamara was earlier directed by Yusaf Ali Kechery in 1979.

M.T. Vasudevan Nair, Renowned Malayalam author, scriptwriter and director M.T. Vasudevan Nair is rewriting the old script of Neela Thamara to suit with changes occurred in the world in 30 years. M.T has written some of the finest scripts in Malayalam for movies including Nakhakshthangal (1986), Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha (1989), Sargam (1992), Sadayam (1992), Parinayam (1994) and Ennu Swantham Janakikutty (1998). His latest offering Pazhashiraja starring Mammootty and is directed by Hariharan is in the final stage of production. It is expected to be released on August 15th.

If rumors are to be believed M.T suggested Lal Jose to direct the film. M.T is said to be impressed by Lal Jose's films.

The new version of Neelathamara will be produced by G. Suresh Kumar under the banner of Revathy Kalamandhir.

Lal Jose is searching for a few fresh faces to don the lead characters.

Vijay Ulaknath who has done Mohanlal starrer Madamby will wield the camera.

Vidyasagar who is busy with his Tamil films will score the music for this film. Lal Jose has worked with Vidyasagar many times and duos biggest hit was MeesaMadavan.

The shooting is likely to begin in May 2009 after Lal Jose completes his first Tamil film Mazhai Varai Pokirathu, scripted by James Albert of Classmates fame.
