The fourth film of Kunchako Boban-Jayasurya combination after Swapnakkoodu, Kilukkam Kilukilukkam and Lollypop is Gulumal.

After trying all the available genres in world cinema this time V.K Prakash forays into comedy with Gulumal which is his sixth Malayalam movie after Punaradhivasam, Mullavalliyum Thenmaavum, Police, Moonnamathoraal and Positive. V.K. Prakash was also the director of Freaky Chakra released in 2003.

It is the story of two frauds trying to pull the biggest fraud of their lifetime to end all their problems. Gulumal deals with how Ravi Varma played by Kunchako Boban and Jijo by Jayasurya try to impress and fool the money of an NRI enacted by Nedumudi Venu. Gulumal is also the story of Jijo's sister who doesn't like his fraudulent activities.

Mithra is the leading lady. Also in the cast are Jagathy, Suraj Venjaaramoodu, Salimkumar and Bijukuttan. A few Bollywood antiheroes have important roles in Gulumal.

The film is scripted by Y. Rajesh. Gulumal also mark the debut of lady cinematographer Fouzia Fatima in Malayalam.

The movie has been treated as a travel film by creating movement in every scene. The director of the film, V.K.Prakash, is well known as the first director in the world to accept and introduce Digital Film Making. He provides a further boost to the digital film making style by shooting this film entierly on H D V format, hence signalling the dawn of an era of affordable film making.

Kunchacko Boban, the chocolate Malayalam hero is the grandson of legendary film producer and director Kunchacko. Chackochan after an interval made a comeback to industry with Shafi's dismal Lollipop. He took a break to foray into real estate business.
