Geetu Mohandas to Marry Rajeev Ravi

Geetu Mohandas is getting married to her long time friend, ace cameraman Rajeev Ravi on November 14 in Kochi. They were acquainted for seven years and were in friendship for over five years.

Geetu Mohandas has done more than forty different films in Malayalam and Tamil. In Malayalam, she started as a child artist with Fazil’s Onnu Muthal Poojyam Vare in 1986. Geetu shot to limelight in Bommukutti Ammavukku, playing the child of Suhasini and Sathyaraj in Tamil. Subsequently as heroine in many Malayalam films, she was lately seen in Shyama Prasad’s Akale, K.P Kumaran’s Akashagopuram and Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s Naalu Pennungal.

Geetu’s Tamil films are Nala Damayanthi in 2003 directed by Mouli; it had Madhavan as hero. Her other film is epic filmmaker K. Balachandar’s 100th movie Poi in 2006.

Rajeev Ravi, a Pune Film Institute graduate who was part of the avant garde films in recent Bollywood. It is Rajiv’s influence on her that she had an aversion for doing running around trees/ commercial films. She kept away from these films lately.

Geetu turned director last month when she premiered her first directorial venture, a 22 minute Malayalam short film Kelkkunnundo, whose cameraman was Rajiv Ravi. Rajiv was the cameraman for the hit Malayalam film Classmates. He is also part of the yet to be released Seetha Kalyanam which also stars Geethu.

Kelkunnundo is a sensitive film that questions the rapid urbanization in cities which has wiped out playgrounds, leaving children with nowhere to play. The short is shot with five year old Hasna; a visually challenged girl the movie got great reviews from the celebrity directors like Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Rajeev Nath, Shyamaprasad, Lenin Rajendran, and others who attended the premiere.

Rajiv’s acclaimed works are Chandini Bar, No Smoking, Dev D, 99, Gulal, Jana etc.

It is a coincidence that the wedding date of this child artiste turned heroine falls on Children's Day. For Geetu, Rajiv was a long time friend, philosopher and guide.
