As the bell rang, adrenalin pumped in and Amal Neerad killed a fan.

For people who don’t know much about Amal, this is a high class entertainer. As we said earlier this film tried to satisfy 80% of the audience coming to theatre.

National award winning actress Shobana who arrives here and there as a weeping housewife is expected to make this film acceptable for family.

The rock version of theme tune from Irupatham Noottandu is used.

This film is going to run. And make bags and bags of money.

As it is released in more than a 100 theatres here and 5 shows each which will account to 500 shows x 800 seats x Rs 25= 1 crore collection at theatre on a single day. Cool, isn’t it?

The film looks as a Bollywood film made in Malayalam. Amal himself is the camera man and the film is shot in Super 35 mm camera. Jyothirmayee after her first innings in Malayalam has come back shedding the clothes as item dancer. The songs are not memorable.

Resorts, boats, planes all were used which gave a plush luxury feel for the film. Amal tried to give this film a mafiaso look but only succeeded in some scenes with his Spanish guitar tunes. Any way he gave due respect for Mario Puzo and Godfather.

Suman, Rahul Boss and a new villain is imported to Malayalam. Any way they didn’t made any impact on the minds of people.

There are less surprises and no innovation in the film.

Mohanlal

The actor who has got the biggest fan base in Kerala looks fine.

The director could have made this film much much better. Mohanlal start his fight where Mammootty stopped in Big B by dismantling Sharveer Vakil.

It’s high time that Jagathy has done something different he is repeating himself lately.

Bhavana is another forgettable character in this film.

S.N Swamy

The writer has relied too much on a director. There is nothing new from such a seasoned writer.

He may need some re invention. There are no surprises waiting for audience from the writing front. Characters are not developed. Only after the second half the story starts and before that, there were a lot of scenes which were interconnected miserably. Its only now that people realize the spine of big B was 4 Brothers.

The introduction scene, the interval and the climax, the high points of commercial cinema have not very well worked out here. The only question left unanswered is why men choose to fight bare handed when they got guns.

People expected much much more from Amal.

Ambience 4/5
Punch factor 2/5
Overall 2.5/5

Sagar Alias Jacky would be the most expected malayalam movie of the season solely because of the legacy Irupatham Nootandu has created. The movie has nothing in common with the earlier movie except the characters of Mohanlal and Jagathy Sreekumar. The movie as the previous one revolves round the underworld don and good Samaritan Sagar alias Jacky.Mohanlal is slick and cool as in the earlier version and the direction is wonderful. The cinematography is the highlight of the movie(other than of course Mohanlal),the camera work by the director Amal Neerad himself is awesome. The editing is also perfect. The only thing missing is a story.

The movie is crafted in the smae mould as the other one with politics underworld nexus and the exploits of Jacky. As in the previous version the heroine(Bhavana) is a journalist who has a love interst towards Jacky, the scene where Jacky introduces himself to her has been crafted the same way as in Irupatham Noottandu. Then there are an array of villains Suman plays Nana, an accomplice and then nemesis to Sagar, then there is Sampath Raj(the villain from SAROJA) and Sherveer Vakil(the villain from BIG B) GaneshKumar and Manoj K Jayan. And as usual Jacky is stronger faster braver and more intelligent than all of them.Other cast including Nedumudi Venu,Shobhana etc are there to boost and boast the image of the hero.

The movie can't even be compared to Irupatham Noottandu, the movie which bgives us goosebumps even today. But still is a good watch except for the stunts sequences where the hero shoots down 100s or gunmen with better guns than himselves without even getting shot or hit(these days guess these are very much acceptable). The movie has everything for a young moviegoer including an item number by Jyothirmayee, action, good looks. But with the families we must wait and see.......

3/5 is my rating.Could have been much better if they had a better story line.Watch it once and if you want more of Sagar Alias Jacky watch Irupatham Noottandu......
