Thiruvananthapuram Zoo

The Zoo at Thiruvananthapuram is one of the best in India. This is one of the major Zoo in Asia also. Zoo is situated between Palayam and Vellayambalam. The zoo was established as an annexe to the Napier Museum in 1857 by Maharaja Swati Thirunal, the erstwhile maharaja of Travancore. The zoo is actually a part of the Botanical Garden.

There is a very large collection of rare plants and very old trees in its premises. The animals and birds are housed in the natural surrounding of woods. People who visit the zoo will have a chance to see 75 different species of animals from India and abroad. A reptile house can be seen where a large number of poisonous and non-poisonous snakes are kept.
