Hot and Cold Beverages -> Masala Tea    

 

Masala Tea - This warming beverage is easy to prepare by steeping spices in hot water and milk before adding black tea.

 

Ingredients:

Pepper – 1 tsp
Cinnamon – 7 one inch pieces
Cloves – 8
Cardamom – 8
Dry ginger – 1”piece
Nutmeg (Jathikka) - ½ of a small one
Tea Powder - 1/2 tsp
Milk - 1/2 cup
Water - 1/2 cup
Sugar - as to taste

 

Masala Tea
Method:

 

In a mortar, crush the cloves, cardamom pods, dry ginger, nutmeg (dried) and cinnamon.


Transfer the crushed spices to a small saucepan, add the water and bring to a boil.


Remove the pan from the heat, cover and let steep for 5 minutes.


Add the milk and sugar to the pan and bring to a boil.

 

Remove from the heat and add the tea powder.


Cover and let steep for 3 minutes. Stir the chai, strain it into teacups.
