The Haripad Subrahmanya Swamy Temple is a Hindu temple located in the town of Haripad in the Alappuzha district of Kerala, India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Subrahmanya, who is believed to be the younger son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

One of the unique features of this temple is its association with peacocks. Legend has it that a peacock used to visit the temple every day and dance in front of the idol of Lord Subrahmanya. The temple authorities were so impressed by the peacock's devotion that they decided to build a special sanctum sanctorum for the bird within the temple complex. Today, the temple is famous for its annual festival, the Aaraattu, during which a procession of beautifully decorated peacocks is taken out from the temple to the nearby Manakkattu Temple.

The peacock is considered a sacred bird in Hindu mythology and is associated with Lord Subrahmanya, who is often depicted riding a peacock. In addition to its association with the Haripad Subrahmanya Swamy Temple, the peacock is also a common motif in Indian art and culture, symbolizing beauty, grace, and pride.

Haripad Subrahmanya Swamy Temple's association with peacocks adds a unique and interesting aspect to the temple's already rich history and cultural significance. The temple's annual peacock procession is a must-see for anyone visiting Kerala and is a testament to the enduring importance of tradition and ritual in Indian culture.
