Kuttanad’s festival Nehru Trophy Boat Race 2009 has begun with great festivities today. There is about 2 lakh tourist in Alappuzha today to watch this event.

Chundans Heats

The Heats No : 1 had four Chundans, Jawahar Thayamkari, Karichal, Sree Ganesh, and St. George. Sree Ganesh came first, followed by Karichal Chundan. Sree Ganesh is rowed by Kumarakam Boat Club, Kottayam.

In the Heats No: 2, Payippadu Chundan came first, followed by IIIikkalam. Payippadu Chundan is rowed by U.B.C.Kainakary. Third and forth places are for Karuvatta SreeVinayakan and Alappadu Chundan respectively.

Champakkulam Chundan came first, followed by Karuvatta Chundan in the Heats No: 3. Champakkulam Chundan  is rowed by JesusBoat Club, Kollam. Third and forth places are for Vellamkulangara and Nadubhagam respectively.

In the Heats No: 4, Cheruthana Chundan came first, followed by Anari.  Cheruthana Chundan is rowed by Manchadikkary Angel Boat Club, Arppookkara.

The Chundans who came first in the heats will contest in the Finals for Nehru Trophy.

Veppu Grade ‘A’ Heats

Ambalakkadavan came first in the Heats No :1 in the Veppu Grade ‘A’ heats.  Venghazhi came second followed by Kottapparamban and Venugopal.

Jai shot rowed by KuttanaduBoat Club, Ramankari came first in the Heats No :2 in the Veppu Grade ‘A’.  Patteripurakka, Varikkalam, Udayam Parambil came second, third, and fourth.
